Custom INIs

Moved this as it is just too important to be buried under a misleading thread ;)

Following some links from the wiki page and I stumbled across the following in regards to overriding (may already be known, but new to me):

User Defined

Changes to automatically created INI files are reverted by Steam when
validating the local game cache. User defined INI files can be used to
prevent this. Settings defined in a user defined INI file override
settings in a regular INI file.

Used by the game

  • My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimCustom.ini overrides Skyrim.ini

Used by the editor

  • steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\SkyrimEditorCustom.ini overrides SkyrimEditor.ini

I knew that one, additionally each mod can have its own ini associated with it, so if the mymod.esp is active than the mymod.ini overrides the skyrim.ini A bit strange that not one mod I have seen uses this. I wonder how the ini conflict resolution process works, knowing bethesda its alphabetical by ini name :P
