Wearable Lanterns by Chesko

Found this on the Hot Files section of the Nexus and tried it out. This is a must have if you like keeping a free hand at night or in dungeons. I got tired of having to switch my torch in and out of my off hand, this solves the problem completely. Completely lore-friendly in my opinion. Try it, it has become one of my "must have" mods. I am currently using Wearable Lanterns 1_0 a No BSA version.

Also, thanks for a great community and a great guide for modding Skyrim!

lol I haven't a clue as to what you can and can't script in Skyrim, but from what I've seen in other mods, couldn't you create a script that has a chance when you are sprinting to randomly set your cloak on fire and deal some damage? That would add some nice immersion lol

I agree with Bealdwine and Holymartyr. This kind of convenience really needs to come with some danger. What use is a torch or the magic light spell (no idea what that spell is called...) if you can just strap a lantern on to your belt and be done with it. If it came with some kind of danger or con of some sort, that would be nice.

Still, all else aside, it is a very clever idea.

This does look pretty cool, but I have to agree that the idea of wearing a lantern full of flammable oil in a battle seems like it should be a recipe for disaster. While I like the idea, I'm going to track and keep an eye on this one for a while first.

Hey all, just registered.

I am currently testing the new lantern oil consumption feature, which will be optional. The "drawback" of using a lantern will be the cost of keeping it filled, if Oil Burning is enabled.

Torchbug Lanterns are also on the way. You will be able to buy an empty lantern jar, and must catch a torchbug to use it. If Torchbug Feeding is turned on, you will have to feed it various flowers (pollen) periodically to keep it happy. The happier it is, the brighter it will glow! This mechanic is functionally identical to oil consumption.

While catching the player on fire might be funny, when and how to make it happen would be greatly up for debate, and I'm afraid would feel passive-aggressive. I don't want to punish the player inadvertently, and mainly just fill a utilitarian need for the player.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Hi Chesko! Nice to see you here. I like the idea of the consumable oil but I personally will be looking forward to the torchbug lanterns. Don't get me wrong, the consumable oil is a great idea too. The torchbugs just remind me of catching fireflies and putting them in jars when I was a kid. Awesome idea and a definite must have for me when you get finished with it. And I agree while the catching on fire idea might be funny the first few times, it would get annoying very quickly. Great work on this! :)

I don't post here often, but, figured I would mention that 2.1 is out, it's stable, and it has all of the features I mentioned (oil burning, torchbug lanterns, as well as 101BUGS integration).

Also, I believe that I had a Frostfall thread on these boards, but it is now gone?

It was moved because it will be included in STEP (the next version). It is here now.

Wearable lanterns 2.2 released. ;) Looks like an awesome update.

As a side note, the description states

"Using Script Dragon with Wearable Lanterns is NOT SUPPORTED and can result in broken behavior from the outset or many hours into your playthrough, with no way to resolve the problem. You have been warned."

Now I know in several places on the wiki we have listed script dragon as part of install procedure so curious as to what the incompatibility is and why it is... I've not heard of other mods incompatible before.
