Transparent and Refracting Icicle and Frost Atronach by Skysan4298

The thing that bothers me with these mods are that it messes up with certain ENB DoF effects. It's like the top of the icicle is blurred but the bottom portion is in depth. Very weird bug. I'll try this one out. Currently the only STEP texture that addresses these is Skyrim 2k and they're not that great.

Actually it is not only DoF effects that bug out... even your torch can bug out, and depending on view angle the refraction's can mess up as well... guess this is part reason why it was never implemented even though the engine supports it.

My main issue with it is that the resolution of the effect is normally such that it is horrible for smaller detailed items, while for larger items like rocks and stalhrim deposits it can actually work quite nicely.

I think part of the problem with icicles is that they are just slapped onto so many incompatible textures in the game.. which always makes them look bad, even when the icicles themselves look good .. I do like these though compared to some of the others I've seen

This also apparently changes the Frost Atronarch textures too...

...and it does pretty damn good job.

It should be compared against frost atronarch hd or whichever mod is currently in step.

So basically we have two compares. One is what I just said and the other is between these icicles amd the ones from skyrim2k. Skyrim2k is the only mod in step that replaces icicles at the moment.

Basically all testing of refracting textures/meshes come down to if the testers think the bugs associated (hold a torch in front) with it is worth it for STEP. If they think they are then they are most likely always going to have the superior look compared to a texture/mesh that does not have the feature.

However they will also most likely not blend in nicely with the surroundings... but then again even the vanilla icicle and ice textures do not blend well with the surroundings imo... It would simply require a remesh of various regions to get a good look, and it would most likely cost quite a bit of stability and performance to do it. (Think SFO regular just for ice)
