Memory patch has been ported to NVSE

Recommended Posts

Development on NVSE has been continued by hlp. The memory patch from sheson has been ported to work for FNV in NVSE v4.2beta3 on the NVSE site.

To get it to work you have to go into data/NVSE and create an ini with the name "nvse_config.ini".

Then open the ini and add this:

[Memory]DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=400 <-recommended value

The default value is 200 and the hardcoded max value is <500. I've used 400 and I haven't had any crashes in conjunction with the 4GB loader and ENBoost. I've tested it for about 10 hours with the mods I have on the guide I made for FNV, plus some weather and lighting stuff I'm testing right now, with no crashes, ILS, or freezes.

Without the patch I was getting a lot of slow down with the inventories and pip boy taking almost 2 seconds to load after a couple hours of playing, but that is completely gone now. I played for about 4 hours straight last night and didn't get any problems.

I am also experiencing increased stability with the new NVSE 4.2 beta 3. I've gone beyond the stable foundation given ion the STEP FNV guide (which is excellent) and pushed my esp file load to 132 plugins, game still seems stable in the Goodsprings area. I will continue to stress test with various mod combinations.

Edit: I too am falling behind in my Skyrim game play, but FNV is a nice change of pace that pairs nicely with Skyrim and retains the same level of excellent story telling. Oh, the radio mods have caused me to (re)discover classic hits of the 40s-60s (how cool is the Rat Pack? just caught the original Ocean's Eleven from back in the day, great stuff!).

Damnit, between this and your guide, you're really pushing me to play FNV again, but I don't have time with all these new games and the Skyrim stuff :(

I know I just got The Stick of Truth and want to sit down with that, but I want to finish this guide up. You might wait to use my guide until I do the weather/lighting, WMX, EVE, and patching sections.

I know what you mean bro, also trying to finish my guide before starting The Stick of Truth and Thief 4 :|PSA: Don't go writing guides, people. STEP taught us that it's a bad thing to do ::P:

Noob modder here with a quick question. In your guide you say:

To get it to work you have to go into data/NVSE and create an ini with the name "nvse_config.ini".

The wording of this sentence is a little confusing. Are you saying to go to the Fallout New Vegas -> Data -> NVSE folder? Because I went to my Fallout NV Data folder and there was no NVSE folder in there. Should I just create a new folder in the FNV Data folder, name it "NVSE", and put the ini config in there?

Yeah or follow directions for NVSE in the guide.

Well you worded it exactly the same in the guide:

Installation: Download the v4.7beta7 file. Follow these instructions:

Extract the files from the archive into the Fallout New Vegas folder, NOT into the Data folder. The src folder and text files are not needed.Open up the Data/NVSE folder and "right click->New->Text Document", then name the file "nvse_config.ini".Open nvse_config.ini and add the following:[Memory]DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=400Save and close.

I'm not trying to be an annoying nitpicker, but for beginners it would be very helpful to add a note telling us to create a NVSE folder in the Data folder. When the guide says to "open up the data/NVSE folder" it makes it sound like that folder should already exist. I was worried that I installed NVSE wrong or something because I couldn't find the NVSE folder in Data.
