Thats very confusing.

I didn't know I had to manually arrange the mods on the file tab. I though BOSS handled that automatically via the plugins. I will check it out when Igo back to home.

This alongside other details can be an issue for STEP users that are new or not hardcore MO users/modders. TBH installing step has been a daunting experience (but also a great experience, I have learned a lot). So, once I have figured out all my doubts I will post a list of suggestions from a noob-friendly perspective. ;)

UPDATE**

nope, it's not working. Even if I change the order to look like this:

Dawngard.bsa

Dragonborn.bsa

Heartfire.bsa

HighResTexutrePack01.bsa

HighResTexutrePack02.bsa

HighResTexutrePack03.bsa

Skyrim - Misc.bsa

etc...

Also moving the texture packs to the top doesnt help :(

The game does not load the high res textures UNLESS I activate them on the plugins tab....

so... I don't understand what is happening. :/

If you extract the BSAs you don't need to use the plugin.  If you don't extract you do need the plugin.  The job of those plugions is to extract fiels form BSAs.  (At least that's how I understand it.)

I know I don't need the plugins, but my problem is that if I don't activate them  then the hi res textures don't get loaded (and yes I have the bsa files activated on the archives tab)

My understanding is that if you do not extract the BSAs you must use the plugin, activating the BSA is not good enough to avoid needing the plugin; you must extract their contents. If I'm wrong about this hopefully someone more savvy than I can correct me. As I read your post I'm not sure if you realize the difference between extracting files from a BSA and activating the BSA in MO. My apologies if you do and I'm just repeating the obvious.

Actually I didn't know I had to "extract" the content of the BSA files. How do I do that?

When you install a mod in MO it usually asks you if you want to extract the files from the BSA. You probably said no the first time and told it never to ask you again, I believe you can reset this with "Reset Dialogs" but wait for someone to confirm this.

To manually extract you can go to the data tab, right click a bsa and "extract..."

Unless you're going to optimize them (something like DDSOpt) you don't really need to extract the HRDLC bsa's, just untick the plugins and tick the bsa's in the data tab (what I did until I optimized everything). ahah no problem, we can't know everything :p

that's exactly what I originally did. But if I untick them on the plugins tab the hi res textures doesn't get loaded (thats why I made this tread on the first place, because I saw character noses look horrible despite having XCE installed, and I fixed them by installed no more blocky faces, not knowing that it was already merged with XCE, then I noticed the hi res textures were not loading properly and activates them on the plugins tab which solved the problem)

Now I wish to know why my hi res texture packs don't get loaded unless I tick them on the plugins tab :S

Ok so bare bones from what I'm understanding of what you're saying.

1. You're unticking the .bsa files of the HRDLC

2. You don't have the HRDLC as loose files optimized or otherwise.

3. XCE does not fully fix the noses so you supplement with this less complete mod.

Am I understanding you correctly?

1) the .bsa files ARE ticked. but if I don't tick the .esp files on the plugin tab the hi res texture dont load.

2) I don't know what you mean with loose files optimized

3) XCE loads the fixes ONLY if the hi res textures are loaded (I know they don't load because the rag texture from the character is also low quiality) but if I active the .esp files on the plugin tab the textures and nose get loaded correctly even if I don't have no more blocky faces.

PD: Yeah this is totally OT now, if someone can move this thread to the support forum I would apreciate it.

Moved to Support.

EDIT2: My actual problem is as follows:
1) If the Hi res pack files (.bsa) are ticked on the archives tab, but the .esp corresponding files are not ticked, then the hi res textures don't get loaded ((I know this because the rag texture from the character is low quality, and the fixes added by XCE are not aplied, thus making the nose look horrible))
2) If I tick the .esp files on the plugins tab all works fine, no problems at all. But this is not supossed to work like this, even MO itself states that activating those .esp files is not necesary if the bsa files on the archives tab are active. (a brush icon appear next to them).
3) So what I want to know is why I am in the need of activating those .esp files in order for the hi res textures to load.

PD: If a moderator see this, please move this thread to the support area, since its now OT from the mods suggestions.

If the Hi Res Pack files are in BSA format, the plugin must be ticked (activated) no matter what. The plugins are used for reading the BSAs so the textures can be loaded into the game. So unless you extract the BSAs, you're going to have to use the plugins for the textures to load in-game. Unticking the BSAs in the Archives tab is telling MO that you do not wish to load them period. Both BSA and plugin have to be ticked for the BSAs to load in-game. This goes for any mod installed as a BSA and not extracted. That "sweeper" icon is only telling you that IF you extract the BSAs, then you don't need the plugin. If you didn't extract them, then the plugin is required. If you want to extract the BSAs, there are three ways of doing this.

1) Install the Hi Res Packs via MO. Take each Hi Res Pack and add them to their own archive using 7-zip ( highresolutionpack1.7z ). Now you can install them in MO just like any other mod. When MO asks if you'd like to extract the BSAs, you simply say yest.

2) Extract them manually in MO.

2) Manually extract them in your Data folder using BSAOpt.

This Guide will help with the second and third options above: https://wiki.step-pr...nd_Optimization

So in summary, you're either going to have to play with the plugins ticked (activated) or extract the BSAs and use the loose files that result in the extraction. These loose files can be archived using 7-zip and installed in MO just like any other mod.
