Requiem Pack (WIP)

Might have an "alpha" build ready that "may" mostly work, I hope...

 

I think I have "most" of the patches needed to make it work, but then again, unless the bug is really obvious or I get a CTD, I may not know its there, so does that mean it doesn't matter? :)   I think I wrote down at least 95% of what I did, but there is always the chance I missed something that I changed.

 

 

To test my install, I used the BFT carrages to visit every location, and enter every inn when there was one.  I also used TGM, tcl, and player.setav speedmult 800 in order to fly around and load as much as I could.  Beyond that, I have not started the Civil war, visited the extra lands, etc.  There is lots to do to verify that the game is stable. 

 

Let me know if more information is needed.

 

A0: Pre Requiem installation:

 

 

Not much to say here. I installed STEP:Extended exactly like the instructions said, and each subsequent installation mods were dropped in after the STEP:Extended mods.  Since I'm using MO, each time I started installing a new pack I just made a copy of the previous pack profile, and continued on.  It is worth noting that mods such as the Dual Sheath Redux and their output were copied (and the name incremented) each time so that the previous profile would be unchanged.  This helped me figure out were a particular bug or problem may have originated.

 

 

I'll make note of any deviations, otherwise assume I've followed installation instructions exactly

Stuff gets interesting here.  This is where I need the most input to help get it figured out.  I wrote down everything I did (at least I think I did, I hope...) while installing Requiem.  I started by removing or modifying mods according the Pack:Requiem guide. Then I made a list of all mods that the Requiem pack says to patch.  Finally, I looked at the patch Smile44 provides, and made a list of all the Masters that the patch requires and looked for patches as well.

B1: Additional Mods:

I added these mods to help out with specific areas I thought the game still needed.

 

 

Important Information Overhaul (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/52471/?)

    - lets you remove the Magika, Health, and stamina bars, and use visual ques instead.

    - First, using iHUD, set the transparency of the 3 main bars to 0 to hide them.  Now, instead of having an arbitrary bar to tell you how close you are to dying, you need to gauge / guess by how the display is changing.   Turn off the enemy health bar while you are at it.  This keeps you guessing.

 

Dragon Combat Overhaul: (  https://www.nexusmods...m/mods/52487/?)

    - Patch included in Another Requiem Patch central.

    - If you really hate yourself, add Deadly Dragons (patch provided with Another Requiem Patch central) and make a dragon with 1000% all stats.  :)

 

A Matter of Time (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/44091/?)    

    - adds a nice clock widget.  I prefer to remove the time of day numbers, and use the sun dial settings. Also tracks moon phase and date. 

    - May want to remove this if you are going for a more minimalistic interface.

 

Death Alternative - Your Money or Your Life (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/45894/?)

    - Installed the 6.1.8 hot fix file (merge for MO)

    - I use this so that when I play a Dead is Dead (game over when a reload occures), it adds a little forgiveness back in.  Granted you can still die  easily, this mixes in some situations where you might not have died (but still punished by loosing gear, getting changed into a vampire, etc).  Your game won't be over, but it will certainly side track you for quite some time.  Makes you play the game way differently.

Death Alternative - Captured (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54867/?)

    - Extra scenarios.

 

SafeAutoSave (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/64413/?)

   - auto saves the game in places and times when you would not notice it, and it won't crash the game.

 

Alternative Crafting System - I don't want to be a blacksmith (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/50546/?)

    - Lets you get high level crafted items, for a price (without having to invest skill points into black smiting)

    - I would say this fits nicely with Requiem, as you have limited skill points, yet you still want that killer item.  This way, you can pay (lots) of gold instead.

 

Dragon Soul Relinquishment (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/27531/?)

    - Gives you the chance to gain extra skill points, by spending Dragon souls.  Lets you choose to unlock more shouts, or get skill points

    - If you feel this makes skill points cheep, then make the exchange rate more than 3 dragon souls per skill point.  I certainly think I deserve a skill point after Dragon Combat Overhaul drops 3 angry dragons on me.

 

Toxicity - A Witcher-like Toxicity System (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/55396/?)

    - I don't think this is apart of Requiem already.  Prevents potion spaming (of which I am guilty)

 

Take Notes - Journal of the Dragonborn (https://www.nexusmods...im/mods/48375/?)

    - Helps to get in the role playing spirit (and helps me remember what the hell I was doing in the game and where I was headed)

    - This is especially useful if you only play sporadically.  A few quick notes can get you back "into" your character even after a few weeks or months.  Keep track of what quest line you are focusing on, or what stat you are trying to push.

B1-3:Trouble Shooting:

 

Game hangs on start up at Dragon Born symbol (not moving, no smoke)

   I narrowed this one down to the "Requiem - Wyrmstooth.esp".  After some experimentation, I found the game would start up just fine, if I ran the Reqtificator with it unchecked, then re checked it afterwards. 

No idea of the consequences of this. If anyone knows if this is ok / bad, please let me know.

 

 

Game CTD on start up:

    Tracked this one down to the "Requiem - Civil War Overhaul Patch.esp".  After reading around on the Posts section of the patch mod page, I copied a posted load order where CWO is just Above Requiem, and the Requiem - Civil War Overhaul Patch.esp is just above Requiem - Improved Closedface Helmets.esp, which is the last Requiem patch (other than Requiem for the Indifferent.esp)  After that, the game stopped CTD on start up.

 

 

 

Game CTD when using the bed during Alternate Start - Live Another Life

- after creating the character, the player selects their start, and uses the bed.  As soon as I click on the bed, the game crashes.  Coincidentally, I had also changed a setting in enblocal.ini (UserDefferedRendering=true).  Changing it back to false fixed this issue. 

 

 

Massive amounts of light flicker / toggling in inns:

    Set "EnableSkyLighting=false" in enbseries.ini

    This did not eliminate the problem, but toned down the amount of flicker dramatically.

    skyrimprefs.ini:  Set fFlickeringLightDistance=4096 (or 8192)

    Again, helps, but problem still persists.

C0: MCM start up settings:

 

These are the settings I'm using for the MCM menu, if anyone is interested.   This is still a WIP, but for the most part, things should run reasonably well.

Users: Every time the game is run, the chargen extension from this mod will generate .tri files in a meshes/cache folder that will be written to Overwrite. These .tri files may safely be deleted.

Lanterns of Skyrim, STEP recommends changing following settings: 
 
    Check every 
        Default: 5 secs 
        STEP: 60 secs 
            This will change how often the script checks the lanterns. Increasing  
            this will prevent the script from running so often.  
 
    Enable lanterns along roads 
        Default: ticked 
        STEP: unticked 
            This will disable lanterns along the roads in Skyrim which returns  
            those area to a more vanilla and lore-friendly state.

Lightning During Thunder Storms (Minty Lightning), STEP  
recommends changing following settings: 
Lightning Config - Fork Lightning Options 
 
    Hostile 
        Default: unticked 
        STEP: ticked 
            This will make the lightning strikes that hit the ground hostile.  
            This means they can hurt you, NPCs and creatures. This is more  
            realistic. If you don't like this, leave it unticked.  
 
    Frequency Delay 
        Default: 5 secs 
        STEP: 25 secs 
            This will reduce the frequency at which these ground strikes occur.  
        STEP has increased this setting to provide a more realistic feel.  
        The new setting will produce approximately one strike every 25 secs  
        instead of one strike every 5 secs.  
 
Leave all other settings unchanged.

On a sidenote: Personally I'd recommend against CoT and ELFX and go with the STEP lighting solution + Lumen ENB instead if your GPU can handle it (and if you are fine with 30 fps). It helps solve a lot of hassle with all the cell edits from ELFX/CoT and imho looks better because ENB weather handling gives more options then just an esp if done well (and Jafin is a genious, his ENB gets way not enough endorsements!).

 

I also really need to make a new STEP patch, sorry for my poor support.

Lumen ENB looks great, and I installed it as per the mod authors instructions, but the game does not look anything like the pictures.  The effect is like a grey shader was dropped on the screen, no vibrant colors, all bright lights are dimmed and all shadows brought close to the ambient lighting (still faintly visible).  Can't seem to figure out where the problem is.  When I disable the ENB (Shift F12), then the game looks like normal again. 

 

Any ideas?

Well, that is odd. Make sure you have the correct lighting esp files enabled: RS and Enhanced Lighting for ENB and the weather esp from Lumen, no ELFX or CoT. Then make sure you got the helper dll in the correct spot.

My guess would be a missing helper dll, what you describe is similar to what I saw when I forgot the helper.

Don't know about a helper dll, just followed the instructions.

I installed the performance version, and it did not make a difference. After mucking around I may have fixed. Using shift - enter to access the enb menu in game, I started switching effects to see what they did. One of the boxes labeled enbseries.ini has an effects tab. When I toggled â€UseOriginalPostProcessing" and "UseOriginalObjectsProcwssing" on, the game looked normal again...

Granted, as I run around in dungeons and at night, the darkness is appropriate, and you don't see many colors in the dark, but when you enter an inn, it's all washed out colors, and very dim. Not at all the vibrant colors you see in the screen shots,

Just checked, the helper comes with the performance download. You probably don't have the right ESPs enabled. Your weather and lighting setup needs to be ELE lite, RS and the weather plugin in the download. No ELFX no CoT or any other weather or lighting mod. For testing purposes I would give the weather and lighting esps very high priority in the load order.

Got my first CTD, and I'm trying to figure out what the problem is.  Its crashed a couple times now, and each time its when I left white run, ran towards the watch tower and there was a battle going on (probably caused the be patrol mod). 

 

What should I be looking for in the papyrus log to help diagnose the problem?

From a first glance, the errors seem to come from a script that refers to objects no longer in existence. Did you uninstall any esps in that savegame (the classic reason that happens, you should always start a new game when uninstalling mods containing scripts)?

I have not uninstalled any mods.  This was on a fresh game that was used to test the mod set up stability.  Before running the game, all automated patchers were run. 

 

I am aware that I'm running a very large number of mods, so there are bound to be some problems and instabilities at first.  We are talking a mod set up with:

- STEP:Extended

- REGS

- War ensemble

- Weather and Lighting

- Requiem

all installed with patches.  I have not run into this CTD while testing the previous STEP Packs.  I've built this incrementally, and have saved all the previous stages in MO using profiles.  At each stage before requiem, the game operated normally.

Well, then the next best guess is, that some incompatibility is removing a script that should really be there. The problem may also relate to script file references. Check for .pex file conflicts in the left pane of MO.

 

You are indeed running a very extensive list of mods, many of which really are outright redundant. The obvious ones are pure weather vs CoT (why install two different weather mods?) and ELFX vs ELE (both edit imagespace, pick one). SoS is also kind of conflicting with AOS installed as AOS has a different mix. While at the topic of cleaning the sound mix, I would also advise to uninstall Ultra Realistic Bow Shoot Sounds (keep the xbow, that is good and not covered by AOS), Improved Combat Sounds and Better Weapon Swing Sounds, then move the AOS files after Smooth Blade Draw and Sheath. The AOS samples are more realistic and snappier across the board.

 

To clear compatibility nightmare for outdoor cells I would recommend the following: Uninstall Pure Weathers, uninstall CoT, uninstall SoS, pick ELE or ELFX. If you picked ELE try Lumen ENB, if you picked ELFX try T.A.Z. Visual Overhaul.

 

Then fire up TES5Edit and hunt for conflicts. With such an extensive load order, you will have to do that.

Edit: I've adjusted the brightness and Gamma-curve, and the game is starting to look way closer (but not quite) like the screen shots on the Lumen ENB mod page. I also had to adjust the night time intensity of fire. The Shadows are not quite as deep as they need to be, but it's getting close.

Having trouble with Lumen ENB. I've reinstalled as the mod page instructs, but its still not working.

 

Uploaded some screen shots to Flickr, to show the problem. With the ENB on, it feels like there is a faded shade dropped across the screen, where everything is made a similar lighting, colors are faded, etc. When you turn the ENB off, the rich color returns, but then the lighting is back to vanilla.

 

I'm not using multiple lighting mods (maybe ETaC changes something? that mod might muck with lights)

 

I've tried moving the lighting mods to a higher priority, but that hasn't changed anything.

Afaik they conflict.

The general look seems like Lumen, the shadows do not seem to be quite right though (maybe something with the skyrim inis?). Could you post the load order you tested Lumen in?
