Issue With Skyrim Realistic Overhaul

Hello, I am new to the elder scrolls games (Normally I play RTS) and the whole procedure used in modding it.

 

So I've been working on going through the guide and I've run into a problem in section B2 on Page 9. Here we're recommended to download Skyrim Realistic Overhaul again and take only the landscape files from it and follow Compiler's Advice.

 

The Advice starts off with: "Open the archive:"

 

I a bit confused by that one, in that I don't have an archive. Is this referring to WinRAR/7zip and downloading the mod manually or is this some archive that I would already have since I have downloaded this mod through the NMM?

 

I apologize for not testing this out myself and I would have but I have a tight schedule with work and school at the moment and don't have much time to adjust to this new modding environment. Thanks in advance.

 

Edit: And if it is a manual download, then do I need to download all the parts again or is there a specific part I should be looking for?

In the particular case of SRO, there is a two part stage of installing. The first (which was done earlier in the process) was to install the mod with all textures. The reason there is an additional step is to "recover" certain textures that end up getting overwritten by other mods up until that particular step. Hope that makes sense.

 

So, yes, you would open the archive and extract its contents to a temporary location so that you can find the file that need to be copied. This is a manual process, as mod managers can't handle this extra level of installation currently.

Archives are another name for the ZIP/RAR/7Z files, and in this case it means the one you download off of the Nexus.  Unfortunately I don't use NMM so I'm not sure how you'd go about selecting which folders to include, but there should be an option for it somewhere in the installation process.

 

This might not be viable with your schedule, but if you're looking to make STEP long lasting and mostly worry-free after the initial setup you might want to check out our guide on Wyre Bash.  It may look complex but if you take a weekend to learn the interface it makes it a hell of a lot easier to manage your mods, especially in the case of STEP and it's ~170 mods.  If that's not your cup of tea, there's also Mod Oganizer, which provides the ability to independently manage your mods without worrying about overwrites/conflicts.  It's not nearly as powerful but if you really can't manage WB it's the next best thing.

this step is completely unnecessary since none of the mods installed prior to this overwrite anything. (Mod Manager reported zero conflicts with anything but the prior realistic overhaul)

 

maybe this should have been moved down more? what exactly is it supposed to be overwriting?
