STEP Extended MIA ?

Recommended Posts

Hey I was just about to start a thread on this before noticing this thread.

I followed STEP Core and after several attempts managed to finally finish the guide, then when I proceeded to "install" STEP Extended from THIS page I was utterly confused as to why so many mods from STEP Core were being listed, both green tagged & NON-green tagged.

It was like STEP Core all over again!

DoubleYou do you mean that during the STEP Core guide, if you install the mods without the green tag, you are effectively installing STEP Extended there and then? If so, then I guess instead of installing Core, I actually installed Extended?!? Is this https://wiki.step-project.com/Pack:STEP:Extended page redundant?

edit: I think I comprehend that Extended requires some changes to the existing Core mods by way of FOMOD however how do I initiate on-demand, the FOMOD within MO? AM I correct is presuming that the mod needs uninstalling and reinstalling to bring up the FOMOD options? If so doesn't this then cause breaking of LOOT/BOSS/Bashed patch stuff? Utterly confusing!!!

Currently it is redundant; however, if you used Core instructions, you should look at the mods in these sections in the STEP:Extended pack page:

  • Modified from STEP Core
  • Patches

The STEP:Extended Pack is in development for 2.3.0, when all Extended mods shall be removed from the guide and implemented as a pack.

Well I already installed Duel Sheath Redux and Fores New Idles when I was following Core guide, so looks like I only have to follow the first section Modified from STEP Core however in order to make the necessary changes to these mods how do I activate their FOMOD options when the mod has already been installed? Also would making changes to these mods require me to create a new bashed patch or what?

This is just far too complex it is ridiculous. Attempting to make the necessary changes from core to extended is ridiculously complex and tedious involving careful partial disabling of certain mods, shitty ass meta data edits, even ******* load order before/after edits, then after 2+ hours of all that **** you read something about duel sheath redux required to be blah blah blah re-bashed patched or some sort of tedious crap and that everything you did before breaks everything else OMFG this is tortuous, especially with the guide not being at all clear & concise. When the **** is STEP going to be an auto installer?

So much for buying a new gaming rig for Skyrim STEP, looks like I may just wait another year or so for STEP to become easier to use and it's not like I havn't even tried hard and I'm an experienced IT technitian, modder, gamer, tweaker, ect.

Sigh!!! STEP is the way STEP is because it has to be for reasons discussed so many times before. If you find it difficult then ask, help will be given. Yes installing STEP is long winded, Yes it takes time, Yes there are many tweaks needed to get a large number of mods to work together. So tough, it is what it is. The instructions are very clear to anyone who takes the time to READ them. Throwing your rattle out of the pram is pointless.

I just did the upgrade from Core to Extended, which was not that complicated. And I am clearly no IT genius (far from it). The game seems stable (apart from one tiny -but annoying- bug with slightly visible horizontal lines on the really far landscape, strange...).

I still believe though that the STEP guide could be made clearer on this very point (the distinction between core and extended) by adding a bright red to extended (where the green in for core). That would be more visible to people like me who read the introduction and then forget.  :^_^:

Next version of STEP will solve that issue. We are going to make Extended a pack, so we can have only core on the guide.

  • 5 weeks later...

STEP 2.29 includes both STEP Core and STEP Extended. When STEP 2.3 is released (no ETA) then it will just be STEP Core only. The Extended pack will then become live as a separate pack. So if you want to install STEP Extended then follow the main STEP guide and install all the mods as directed and all will be fine.
