Freezing near the entrance to Riverwood.

• Been trying to find the answer/solution to this for several days now. Reinstalled STEP + the 2 patches I'm using twice. Turned off Burn Freeze Shock that wasn't enough. Quite frustrated.

• Followed STEP then installed 2 STEP Packs followed by about 3 or 4 other mods I wanted to run. 

No additional ini tweaks.

 

Freeze

 

• Between Helgen and Riverwood. Always at least after the two wolves. Sometimes as far as actually entering Riverwood.

Ralof, sometimes the wolves, sometimes a Riverwood NPC or 2. Sometimes I'm completely away from everyone. 

Either just walking, or trying to attack one of the wolves.

 

I've been running the Papyrus Logs so if someone would like to see those I can provide them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

File extensions are showing.

Looks like the .ini was in the wrong spot. I had it up one level from where it should be, added a SKSE folder to "data" folder for my SKSE mod in MO, put the .ini in there. File tree matches yours now. 

Made it into Riverwood and spoke to Gerdur. No crash so skse_skyrim_loader.log doesn't have any heaps, but, according to Memory Block Log Block 1 got up to 299. So looks like it's working now. Time to start turning things back on, and see if I need to tweak those values.

The other issue... make sure you're not hiding file extensions. Else your SKSE.ini could well ACTUALLY be SKSE.ini.txt. Been there, done that.

Ah yes, I should have remembered that third very common reason for the SKSE.ini heap allocation settings not working! I have added it to my post, just in case anybody else reads it upon searching for "freezing near Riverwood".

I spent about 3-4 days working on this. Very frustrating. Incidentally the STEP guide that's current, doesn't include Sheson's patch. I feel like that might be an oversight. It's still in the STEP Wiki, but it's not actually in the guide. I am super happy that you were able to help me. I wasn't necessarily gonna give up, I really wanna play with the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod. But, I was really bummed at the thought I'd have to turn off so many of the STEP improvements.

Actually it does. That's what you put the lines in the SKSE ini for. SKSE includes the memory patch. :)

@Keith: Yeah it was crazy high I eventually lowered it but I used it for a long time. You've probably seen that ini congurator on a couple of sites where you put in your psecs and it determines you values... well it actually recommended that because I have 6ggb ram and 3 gb vram. I've sence gone down to the old 76800.
