FNV 4GB Loader via MO

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

This is my first time posting on this forum. I apologize if this has been addressed before but I searched around and couldn't find any advice that seemed to help.

The issue is that when I attempt to run FNV 4GB Loader through MO as an executable I get an error message stating "The specified file path could not be found" or something to that effect.

I have tried entering in all the recommended arguments into MO as well as in the target box for the 4GB loader's properties. This has not worked. I have removed and re-installed the loader and have made sure that the exe is located within the Fallout New Vegas folder along with its respective .dll file. Every time I get the same error.

It seems to be I am missing something very obvious. I am not at my computer now but if screenshots are necessary of the messages and file set up I can do so tonight. The game loads up when loading NVSE through MO. I played a little last night but CTD'd after about twenty minutes. I ran S.T.E.P recently for Skyrim and never had any issues so I am at a loss for what I am doing wrong this time (usually I am pretty good at following directions??).

I will take any advice you all may have to get it working. Even a lead in the direction will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance to everyone in the modding community for taking the time to read.

Alex K.

The obvious thing (you probably already checked this, but I want to rule it out anyway) is to make sure the file path is correct in MO's executable menu. That aside, it sounds like something may be blocking MO from accessing FNV 4GB. Is your Steam library located in your programs folder? If it is then it needs to be moved out. You can also try right-clicking FNV 4GB (in your NV folder) and setting it to be run as an administrator. I would also turn UAC off (User Account Control) and see if that works.

I also noticed that MO just updated. So you can try updating and see if that works.

Lets say that all the stuff I said above is true. Your Steam folder is somewhere else, you are running FNV 4GB as an admin, UAC is off, the file path is correct, etc. And it is not a problem with MO being able to access the executable. Hmmm. Are you running an ENB?

Check those things out. And if you still need help post again and we can go from there. Don't worry, we will get this sorted out. :)

There are already numerous threads started on this subject so I'm not sure how extensive your searching was. :;):

Aside from that, post the actual paths to all the relevant tools, Fallout, Steam, MO & FNV4GB, as well as the actual settings you have set in MO.

Additionally can you post your modlist, particularly the amount of BSAs you have being loaded, as there is an issue with the Fallout games and the number of BSAs you can load.

I ruled out the .bsa issue because if the game won't load due to a mod (or too many .bsa's) it won't show any error message. The game will either not start at all or it will crash. Since there is an error message I am thinking it has to do with the executables. Though I have been wrong before too. So I think it's still something we should check just in case.

Yeah, I'd go with your conclusion too. Still, the amount of information on this topic in STEP is immense, I am a little bemused by the lack of search results. Nevertheless, whatever gets added here all goes into the mix. ::):

Well first of all thank you for the input!

So to set the stage a little better:

  • Steam is not in program files, neither is NV. Both are on C\Games.

  • UAC is off.

  • No ENB for this game. I did download ENBoost for Skyrim.

Now here are the paths so far. Granted they are convoluted due to my recent obsession with modding skyrim.

  • Fallout New Vegas: "C:\Games\Skyrim Modding\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas"

  • Steam: "C:\Games\Skyrim Modding\SteamApps\common"

  • Mod Organizer for FNV: "C:\Games\Skyrim Modding\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\ModOrganizer\ModOrganizer.exe"
  • FNV 4GB Loader: "C:\Games\Skyrim Modding\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\fnv4gb.exe"

FYI when I try to run FNV 4GB Loader I get another error message though slightly more specific:

"Unable set currrent dir to game dir"

Haven't gotten through all of fear and loathing yet. As for how many BSAs I'm loading, not sure what the quickest way to show that is. But I can say that I have extracted and hid them at every point the guide suggests.

So at this stage the problem persists. As for there being a lot on this issue already, I apologize for the repetition. I honestly couldn't find anything that addressed my particular problem where there wasn't an ENB issue involved. If you have any links to those posts I would be very very grateful to check them out.

I apologize for the delay! I do not always have time to get to my computer. Thank you for taking the time to consider my dilemma!

Just want to say that this is indicative of reinstalling / Verifying the game cache with steam and not running the game from steam afterwards.

The bashed patch is there, it's just not at the end of the list.

How many BSAs do you have in the archives tab of the right pane?

EDIT: If you have ADAM complete you were using Fear & Loathing right? Where is your Bashed Patch?

Ok so thank you very much to all for the responses. I have not been at my computer to respond and update so I apologize for the delay.

I just now tried to run the game through Steam once as per GSDFan's comment and that seemed to get the loader working. I immediately CTD'd but my setup is in no way complete so I'm not surprised. Really glad to have figured that out and as expected it was due to amateurish oversight on my part.

Once again thanks to everyone who contributed! I deeply appreciate it and can hopefully give back soon.

So far a great mod set up by EssArrBee so thank you for building it as well!
