Game Performance degrades to multi-crashes after several hours.

Spankahontis

Question

Hi,

I'm new to modding with Skyrim.

I've been using Mod Organiser, watch all the tutorial videos from Gamer Poet and I have a decent understanding on how the tool works.

At least I think I have as I keep hitting the same problem, after several hours of gameplay I get plenty of Random crashes, now I get one every 3 to 4 minutes.

I'm  really at my wits end.
Been using these mods, I don't know whether i've not done ENBoost correctly or it simply doesn't work for me.

But SKSE is installed to my game I checked the version in the console and it's there, but I crash, always the more of the map I open up, performance goes down.

I've used the LOOT tool to put them in the right place. i've used TES5EDIT to clean up redundant files for the DLC and other scripts

(Inigo and Moonpath to Elswyr mods have files you can only remove manually and i'm not confident in doing that yet, so left them alone).
These are the mods i'm using.

- Realistic Needs and Diseases
- Frostfall
- Clima
tes of Tamriel
- Inigo
- Sophia
- Alissa the wandering Rogue
- Falskaar
- Wyrmtooth
- Moonpath to Elswyr
- Civil War Mod
- Sky UI
- SKSE
- 64 Bit ENBoost
- Immersive Beds
- Aesir Armour
- A Matter of Time
- Dual Sheath Redux
- Skyrim Redone
- Block Sparkles
- CP Apple Tree
- Hunting Profit
- Amazing Follower Tweaks
- Valfar
- Skyfalls + Skymill
- Vilja
- Helgan Reborn
- Skyrim Immersive Creatures
- Bounty Gold
- Audio Overhaul
- Daedric Dawnbreaker
- Skyrim Book Covers
- Enhanced Lighting and FX
- Convenient Horse
- Trade Barter
- Bury the Dead
- Racemenu
- Touring Carriages
- No loading screen for Major Cities

My PC.

Windows 8.1 x64 Bit

Nvidia GeForce GT 630

16GB Ram

Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40Ghz (8 CPU), #3.9GHz
DirectX 11

Need expert views, I'm not after mega graphics, but vanilla game optimizes my game to High Settings, but personally when you add mods it doesn't take that into account.
So may have to cut back, any ideas?

I have added the Wrapper files it tells me to extract into the main Skyrim folder and I get the notification in the intro screen (Top left corner) that ENboost is installed. But after that I get a red notification that PATCH SPEEDHACK Enboostlocal.ini is activated, Graphics have been disabled; Is this line below meant to be like this in the .ini file? I fear it may be incorrect, if so what am I supposed to enter into that entry..VideoMemorySizeMb=<integer in KB, multiples of 1024>    ;Set to equal VRAM (32-bit)    ;Set to [VRAM] + [System RAM] - [2048] (64-bit)

Also, i've pointed the Skyrim performance monitor to mod manager's .exe

And I've added the profile I am using in Mod Manager which is RON v2 and the main TESV.exe but lauching SKSE from Mod Manager doesn't get Skyrim Performance Manager to work.

This is what my enblocal.ini looks like.

When you initially ran Skyrim Performance Monitor, you had it pointing to your Skyrim.ini here

C:\Users\???\Documents\my games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini

Is this where your modified all your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPref.ini settings? If so, you are doing it wrong. Those files are used when running Skyrim outside of MO. You should have modified the ones in your "\MO\profiles\{your profile name here}" directory. In your enblocal.ini in your Skyrim binaries directory for the line:

VideoMemorySizeMb=<integer in KB, multiples of 1024>  ;Set to equal VRAM (32-bit)  ;Set to [VRAM] + [system RAM] - [2048] (64-bit)

set the value equal to your video memory (VRAM) size if you are using a 32 bit version of windows. If you are using a 64 bit version of windows set is to your VRAM + System RAM - 2048. So for example if you run windows 7 64bit and have a 4GB video card and 8GB of system memory you should use 4096+8192-2048=10240. You should use the latest version of ENBoost from Boris's web site, not one from the Nexus. It can be found here.

For Skyrim Performance Monitor in Setup -> Miscellaneous Settings , check "Minimize on Skyrim Lauch", "Attempt Support for Custom d3d9.dll", and anything you want to see in game. Use Skyrim Performance Monitor to launch MO (it will minimize Performance Monitor and MO will start), then launch Skyrim running SKSE from MO. If your ENB is running correctly you should see your graphic card statistics in the upper left. After having run and exiting Skyrim, you can maximize Skyrim Performance Monitor and view the stats of your graphics card. From the ENB page you should modify your SkyrimPrefs.ini to include:

bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 must be set in SkyrimPrefs.ini file to make this mod work. Start SkyrimLauncher.exe to configure your video options again.

Sky lighting to work correctly require rendering objects to shadow, so edit manually following lines in file SkyrimPrefs.ini:

bTreesReceiveShadows=1

bDrawLandShadows=1

bShadowsOnGrass=1

This is for your SkyrimPrefs.ini located in your "MO\profiles\{your profile name here}" directory. Hope it helps.

Apologies for the delay, had to sleep and stuff.

The tweaks you asked me to add to Skyrim Performance Monitor worked It's reading the performance now.

I made a Screenshot of the graph and this is what it was like before I closed down in Whiterun.

https://www.mediafire.com/view/tw83iqpt3qr03wr/Screenshot_1.jpeg

The GPU was going crazy, 98-100% of it's capacity.

https://www.mediafire.com/view/qmk67ec5vickhqt/default_Skyrim_specs.jpg

These are my specs that the Skyrim Launcher classes as my optimal settings when it scans my computer hardware.

I'm trying to figure out the rest, not sure how to calculate the VRAM Hopefully the answer is in the Screenshot?

It sounds like you have your ENBoost working correctly. Skyrim Performance Monitor tells you how much VRAM you have. It is listed on the bottom left along with your CPU, GPU, etc. Your have 4GB VRAM from your image or 4098 MG and you have 16GB system memory or 16248 MB. I would not worry to much about GPU going 100%, your max temp is shown as 55C. No problem.

So i've altered

VideoMemorySizeMb=4098 (If that's right?)

Anything else that needs altering in enblocal.ini?

This is how it's looking right now.

I largely follow Neovalen's Skyrim Revisited: Legendary Edition (SR:LE) guide. Here is what he has to say, like me you have an Nvidia card:

Open ENBTemp/enblocal.ini and modify the following:

Under [PERFORMANCE], set EnableOcclusionCulling=false. This can cause flickering on the world map if enabled.

Under [MEMORY], set ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true. This allows Skyrim to use more available memory in 64-bit systems.

Under [MEMORY], set DisableDriverMemoryManager=true if using an AMD based video card.

Under [MEMORY], set ReservedMemorySizeMb=X. Where X = 64, 128, 256, 512, or 1024. This setting is highly dependent on the users system. If stuttering is experienced when turning 360 degrees in game, increase this value.

Under [MEMORY], set VideoMemorySizeMb=X. Where X the amount of VRAM available. 1GB = 1024, 2GB = 2048, 3GB = 3072, 4GB = 4096, etc.

Under [ENGINE], set EnableVSync=true. This will prevent screen tearing.

Under [ANTIALIASING], set EnableEdgeAA=true, This will smooth edges with only a small performance loss.

Under [ANTIALIASING], set EnableSubPixelAA=true. This will increase picture quality with almost no performance loss.

Check against yours.

Check against yours.

Some were already done, others needed to be edited, but I've saved them.

I'm using Legendry Edition as well so hopefully this will help for mine.

Short guide I made for myself:

Troubleshooting CTD

Is Skyrim Memory Patch being used (via Skyrim Script Extender or SSME)?

Use Memory Blocks Log to verify

I'm using SKSE, Memory Block is working but i'm still getting Frostfall scripts being shut down due to not enough memory and yet I only used up over 300MB of my 512MB Block allocation.

Is ENBoost installed and working?

Not 100% certain. I get the in-game message but a notification in red that the graphics are disabled.

Do you get the in-game message that ENBoost is active?

Yes, with the authors name.

Are your ENBlocal.ini settings correct?

I've altered the ini files to what people in this topic have recommended and i'm still getting scripts shutting down.

Use Skyrim Performance Monitor to verify

Are you using unorthodox INI tweaks?

I followed GamerPoets ini tweaks tutorial Part 1 and 2.

Are the Unofficial Patches installed correctly?

Yes, I used LOOT to arrange them in the right build order.

Are they checked in the mod list?

Yes

Are they in the correct priority order in the mod list?

Yes

Are they checked in the plugins list?

Yes

Do you have any active plugins that are missing a master?

No Missing Master files have been alerted on MO, but LOOT has yellow boxed the following mods.. Moonpath.esm (Contains 1 ITM records), Inigo.esp (Contains 39 ITM records),  moonpath_questdata.esp  (Contains 1 ITM records).

I used 'Apply Filtering for cleaning', followed by 'Undelete and Disable References' with TES5EDIT and these above errors wouldn't remove, I don't know how to edit these errors in the tree.

Check for a warning icon in the plugins list before a plugin.

No Warning Icons.

Can TES5Edit successfully load all your plugins in one go?

Yes, it just can't clean the above mods i've pointed out using the AFfC and UaDR methods I was advised to use.

Start disabling mods and find which mod is causing CTD (Haven't tried this yet).

Do any of your plugins have errors that cannot be resolved?

Frostfall keeps running out of memory and disabling and reactivating itself and the 3 files above I can't clean with TES5EDIT.

Test plugins with the Check for Errors option in TES5Edit

Not all errors cause CTD

Did you update/add a mod recently? If so, see if there are any issues with that mod or compatibility issue with it and your setup.

Some mods will cause CTD due to a corrupt mesh.

Only the above files

That's cause they're ITM's or Identical to Master entries, not UDR's. Do the filter again and use the 'remove identical to master records'. Option.

I think I know what i've done wrong with these, I 'Applied to filter', but didn't 'remove identical to master records', instead I pressed undelete and disable.

I'll do this next time but at the moment I've started a fresh install of Skyrim, gone through all of everyones advice above and the checklist.

I think altering something in the enblocal.ini is what's causing the crash to desktop to occur as I haven't started to install the mods.

I only have the unofficial Skyrim/DB/HF/DG/Graphic improvements Patches, SKSE, Mem Block, Performance monitor up and running.

I also have clean copies of Update.esm, dragonborn.esm, dawnguard.esm, Hearthfire.esm that Gamerpoets tutorial tells you to do when backing up TES5EDIT Files.

UPDATE: Seems to be EnBoost itself that's causing the CTD, I get to Skyrims main menu with the notification that ENBoost is installed with the name of the designer and copyright etc. Then Default's editor, but I start a new game and it crashes.

Well I managed to get the game running with ENBoost I added all the files to the Skyrim Folder, so it was probably missing a file or 2?

But the FPS was ridiculous 15 fps and tons of stuttering.

As you can see from the Screenshot of the Monitor graph, everything was pushed too hard and the temperature rose to about 65 degrees in a few minutes.

If that's true, then you don't have the right settings in enblocal.ini.

This is what the enblocal.ini looks like now.

I can run Skyrim with Enboost installed, Memblock and Performance Monitor are working alongside it.

But framerates are between 15-21 fps, it looks really slow, the lagging is noticeable.

Weird thing is V-Ram isn't under too much strain, it's only over 1000 during the beginning intro and about 20-25fps indoors.

Tried tweaking certain numbers and i'm not getting any improvements.

All I have installed on M.O is all the Unofficial Patches, SKSE, I've made clean versions of Update, H.F, D.B,D.G, High-Res ESM's etc.

LOOT has sorted them, no conflicts are detected.

So I would say you might be right, all I can think of is certain parts are conflicting?

ALSO... I'm getting this message when I start up a New Game..

Hardware Antiailiasing detected, some effects disabled

In the top left corner, if it's in red then a warning?

Success! they've been cleaned, I wasn't using 'remove identical to master records'.

They've been fixed.

Just need help with the ENB and I can start Patching the Game Files.

@Spankahontis

Try using

[spoiler]text[/spoiler]

tags when pasting in long lists like ini files. ::):

Done, :)

I have re-read through the Enbseries website.

I have the Wrapper folder; I added the contents of that into the Skyrim Folder.

I then took the ENBoost Patch 5.0 with the Nvidia_videocard folders and copy pasted the contents of the 4GB VRam folder (enblocal.ini) into the Main Skyrim Folder.

I'm not getting anymore warnings and when I go onto the Skyrim main screen, it runs at apout 120 fps but again only 15-20fps at the beginning intro and 20-25 indoors.

I can access the editor by Shift+Enter but i'm not sure what I need to look for to improve frame rates.
