:)  Well, I'm worried about telling him... not because of the Whiterun thing where everyone runs to the tavern the first time entering Whiterun... but because, other than that, people are behaving like they were with the other version for me - for that reason.  IOW - people are not running away from a dragon when it attacks.  What have you experienced beyond the "1st time into Whiterun and everyone runs to the tavern" situation - have you gotten an actual dragon attack and seen what people do in that situation?  In this test I disabled all of my DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfires, Dragonborn) to see if they were the issue for some reason (in addition to disabling all other mods beyond "Run For Your Lives").

 

Maybe he would prefer a personal Nexus email message rather than a comment about difficulties with the mod on the mod page?

Also: I'm open to suggestions about what may be wrong with my Skyrim installation.  I don't know if this matters, but I have my game installed in "C:SteamSteamAppscommonSkyrim" instead of the Program Files directory.  I use Windows 7.  My Skyrim version says: 1.9.32.0.8.  I log into my computer using a non-admin account but run Mod Organizer using administrative privileges (thus everything MO runs itself is with admin privileges, which includes the game I run from within MO).  Anyone here have any ideas for me?

 

I really want to figure out the exact "variable" that prevents the script in the mod from working properly for some people, but not for others.  It's just weird, especially since scripts from other mods seem to work for me.  If we can figure this out, then we can make the solution available to anyone else having the same issue, because we'll actually know what causes the problem.

If I go into Whiterun (inside - through the gates) and spawn a dragon unnaturally using "player.placeatme" console command, the mod does work and everyone in town (who is supposed to - meaning, most everyone except guards) immediately runs inside.  Actually, they all run to the tavern.  I'll have to find out if people are supposed to go to their own homes if available before going to the tavern or not.  When the game itself spawns an aggressive dragon normally, and I then run into Whiterun (inside - through the gates) they do the same thing.  If they are waiting at the tavern to get inside (because they have to wait while they slowly try to open the doors one at a time) and the dragon attacks them, whoever gets hit by the dragon attack becomes aggressive towards the dragon and stops trying to get inside.  At that point that NPC pulls out their weapon and runs off in aggressive mode towards the dragon.  Once the dragon is dead everyone who did manage to make it inside before receiving damage from the dragon comes back outside.

 

People outside of Whiterun in the farms are just acting aggressive towards the dragon - not running.

 

So I am getting a reaction that is in the right direction and the mod is definitely doing something, it's just not working 100% for me.

 

This is my experience so far.

 

This makes it easier to test NPC behavior though now because apparently it doesn't matter if a dragon is unnaturally spawned or not - NPCs react the same way to all the dragons.

Interesting - I am getting different behavior with NPCs between a naturally spawned dragon and an unnaturally spawned dragon.  After Mirmulnir, the dragon that spawns 3 days after - NPCs (in general) get aggressive outside Whiterun and just want to fight the dragon.  If inside Whiterun, NPCs get aggressive but some also run inside the tavern in combat stance and others don't.  But, if I spawn a dragon myself using "player.placeatme" command (unnatural dragon spawn) NPCs (in general) do not get aggressive.  NPCs outside Whiterun don't much do anything.  NPCs inside Whiterun run to the tavern and go inside.  NPCs in Riverwood (except for Alvar and Sigrid - and guards of course) run inside the tavern.

After explaining my results in a better way on the Nexus mod page, Arthmoor, responded to say that he noticed some of the same NPC issues, fixed some of the mod code, and put a newer version up on the link - supposedly it should fix the issue with NPCs only running to the tavern and also the issue with NPCs outside of Whiterun in Pelagia Farms.  So I'm about to download it and give it another go.

I am using this spot to place log files for this mod so that the author of the mod can see them here.  Nexus won't let me use spoilers in my posting there. OK, to make things simple I went into the game two different times and created logs for each time. First time - I loaded a saved game just as I entered the interior of Whiterun as the vanilla spawned dragon was attacking.  Here are the logs, NPC behavior is pretty much as described in my previous post on Nexus mod page for that situation - it sort of works because most NPCs do go inside, sort of doesn't because most of them come immediately back outside and go back into combat mode:

New logs after ensuring all DLCs were, in fact, removed and also starting once again from the very beginning but this time running through the entire bleak falls barrow, thus not cutting one corner up until the dragon attacks.

 

Once again, first time: I entered the interior of Whiterun as the vanilla spawned dragon was attacking.  The behavior was exactly the same as my last test run with this situation.  BUT, the logs do mark the dragon script ID differently... as "[MGRitual05DragonScript < (FF000C7C)>]" versus "dragonactorscript".  But it made no difference to the observed behavior of NPCs compared to the previous test with this type of dragon spawn situation.

Once again, second time - I loaded a saved game in the interior of Whiterun, and then force-spawned a dragon myself.  Here are the logs, NPC behavior is pretty much as described in my previous test for this situation.  Like the vanilla dragon spawn this time, the logs do mark the dragon script ID differently... as "[MGRitual05DragonScript < (FF000CA2)>]" versus "dragonactorscript".  But it seemed to make no difference to the actual NPC behavior observed - it worked in the previous forced dragon spawn test and it still works in this one.

Due to the STEP forum crash and data corruption issue, my previous post was lost, so I am re-posting as best I can.

 

Alright Arthmoor.  Sorry for the wait.

 

This time I created Papyrus logs and a video at the same time, so you can examine not only the scripts but also see what is actually happening in the game.  The video's description on YouTube states some observations that I made.  Throughout the video, I paused it to grab IDs from a bunch of NPCs for you that I felt were doing something noteworthy behavior-wise.

It starts off just outside of Whiterun with a vanilla-spawn dragon attacking.  I enter Whiterun.  At some point the dragon also lands/perches for the first time in that area.  It seems as though most NPCs (except guards) started to run to get indoors like they should.  The clencher that breaks it all is that most come back outside immediately after going inside, and then go into combat stance waiting for the dragon to land on the ground.  As soon as it does, they run in to fight it.  After it was killed, I force-spawned a dragon so that you could see how NPCs react differently to those types of dragons.  They react perfectly to those like I'm sure you intend the mod to have NPCs behave towards either type of dragon - they run inside and stay there until the dragon is dead.

Here is the issue with NPCs fleeing upon first entering Whiterun.  This is with the version of RFYL that you put up for me in your special link this morning.  I do not know if this is the exact same version as the one you just officially put up on your mod page.

 

This is what I did.  I loaded a saved game that was right before I went into Whiterun for the first time.  Basically, I had just finished grabbing the Dragonstone and first shout from Bleak Falls Barrow.  So I enter Whiterun and everyone (except for guards, the preacher, and Companions) runs inside.  Then at the very end of this, I entered the tavern.  Apparently, upon loading a new area, this ends the RFYL command for the NPCs to be inside, so they go back to normal.  So after I entered the tavern, the Carriage Driver was in there and he left.  Here are the logs:

Kuldebar, or someone else - Can you check to see if you still get that issue with NPCs running into their homes upon your first arrival into Whiterun (no dragons around)?  And if you do, do you mind recording Papyrus & AliasDump logs and pasting them in this forum so Arthmoor can have a look at them?  It would be much appreciated.  We are trying to figure out what might be causing this to happen, because I noticed that I'm getting this issue in the newest version.  Arthmoor is telling me that my game logs are somehow identifying and detecting the presence of Alduin, which is weird.

If I had got this request yesterday, I'd been more than happy throw in a test run, but I just started a new non-test play-through after some rather extensive trouble-shooting/mod changes and testing of my own over the last few days. I'm not even using any version RYL in this build, if needed I'll just use Deadly Dragon's functionality if I think I need it.

While the inside of Whiterun seems to be working very nicely...

 

Riverwood is not working well (in my tests) - Vanilla Spawn Dragon kited from edge of town (just past north bridge) into town.  In this particular testrun I saw not one person go inside (the one in the logs provided).  After kiting a vanilla spawn dragon into Riverwood a few times (reloading to before the event gets triggered each time), I notice that rarely do people actually go inside, versus Forced Spawn Dragon where most go inside.  So every once in a while someone does manage to actually go inside, but usually not.
