Mod Organiser Is Not Properly Launching the Game

I'm using the latest version of Mod Organiser (1.3.6) with the latest Steam version of Fallout 3 on Windows 8.1. Whenever I try to launch Fallout 3 via Mod Organiser (wether it's the default exe or through the script extender), none of the mods seem to load (including script extender plugins.) I noticed that Mod Organiser always opens the game launcher first rather than going straight into the game. I don't recall this ever happening with Skyrim. This is why I am lead to believe that Mod Organiser is not properly launching Fallout 3. I set all my executables to run as administrator and have deleted Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncher.exe so that I can redownload them by verifying the game cache via Steam. If I delete FalloutLauncher.exe and attempt to launch the game, an error is returned stating that the game is missing and then the game proceeds to launch anyway (without any mods loading.)

 

Maybe some mods are loading, I can't tell 100% since I mostly have simple texture mods at the moment. What I'm using to tell if the mods load is a coloured map texture for the Pip-Boy, a UI improvement mod, and a script extender plugin that shows other body parts (e.g. legs) in first-person. None of these are working, of course... I highly doubt anything loads since if I open the console and type GetFOSEVersion, it returns an error despite the FOSE loader command prompt opening for a split second prior to the game launcher opening. If I attempt to launch Fallout 3 via FOSE without using Mod Organiser, it does indeed load since the command does return a "1" in the console.

Ahh, good the initial issue is solved by moving it to a non-UAC folder?

 

As to BSAs. You may come across an issue where the added Invalidation bsa is not listed first in the archives tab.

 

You can fix it a number of ways and there is already a thread where this was discussed and answered, you can follow that here.

Yes I believe that was the issue even though I turned off as much of UAC as I could. There's a possibility that it was something to do with my INI files since when I first tried to re-install to the default directory I deleted the INI files from the save directory but not the ones that MO has in the profiles folder. I did delete the ones in the profile folder after moving to the C:\ directory. The INI files I was using were from 2010 so if MO was copied, stored in the profiles folder, and used those old ones that may have had issues with them, that may have been the problem.

 

My invalidation BSA does appear in the archives tab, just not in the INI. However, DoubleYou said that what is in the INI for archives is basically irrelevant. The only problem I had with the invalidation archive is that it was at the bottom of the archive order and I could not move it to the top (greyed out), so I had to move everything else below it. Someone else posted this issue on here and I read that it would be fixed next version (which would have been 1.3.7, the version out now, at the time that I read that.)

Which ini are you checking to see if the AI is enabled?

When I enable it in my MO this line is updated in the Fallout.ini in the current profile:

SArchiveList=Fallout - Invalidation.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - MenuVoices.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa

 

Also the 'archives.txt', also in each profile folder, should have that BSA listed in the first place.

If though the game is functioning fine and no issues are evident, these are minor details inside MO and can be overlooked.

Well, the game hasn't crashed. I was checking the INIs in the default location (same as saves). I checked the ones in the profile, and they don't have SArchivesList with the invalidation BSA in it either. However, there is a file in the MO profile directory called fallout3.ini that has

in it. I believe this is a list of lines that MO updates the original INI with, correct? So I think everything is good.

Now that is something I hadn't noticed before. May be due to the change of game code plugins in MO a few versions ago. Looks like the AI.BSA is added to a separate ini and then added in on runtime, much the same way as an initweak.

My Fallout.INI in my profile folders are there from early on and they always had that setting so it could be a leftover.

 

The INIs in the 'My Documents' folder are only there as initial setups, everything you do afterward in MO will be in these 'profiles' folders.

 

If you notice any AI issue at all be sure to mention here or in the Bug Genie, there have been one or two of late and I think most have been squished, but you never know.

Well, the BSA not being on the top by default is still an issue for me, so there's that. Maybe by "fix" it was meant that it would be made so it wouldn't matter what order the BSA is in?

The complexities of Archive Invalidation are above my pay-grade so I can't be definitive on that, but I do know I have seen no issues with missing textures that some have mentioned and they said when the AI BSA is listed first it solved that so, if in doubt, place it first.

Well I just mean for a future version perhaps it could be placed on top by default if it's more advantageous for some users to do so and having it anywhere else provides no more benefits.
