icetbr
Hi, I'm trying to clean the DLCs esm, everything seems to work fine, but the ovewrite folder is empty after thre process. Any ideas? Maybe I installed FO3Edit wrong? thanks
Kelmych
I think this is how FO3Edit works now. I'll check when I'm at my computer
GrantSP
Did you have the "Backup Plugins" option enabled in xEdit? What should happen is the new "cleaned" plugin AND a folder with the backup(s) should appear in the overwrite folder and the original plugin(s) will be missing from Data. From here you either return the backup plugin(s) to Data and have the new one(s) in a mod created inside MO, or simply move the clean plugin(s) into the Data folder. There is also some variance with how this works depending on the versions of MO and xEdit and apparently the speed of the drive(s) they are writing to. icetbr
Yes, I checked backup plugin. I'm using on a SSD drive, and the esm's in the Fallout3 folder did change their size (although not their date, probably on purpose) slightly. I think it worked, I just wanted to make sure this is a possible outcome.
GrantSP
So... for you the ESMs remained in the Data folder?Could provide version numbers for both xEdit and MO?
icetbr
xEdit 091115MO 1.3.
GrantSP
Thank you. Hmm... this is troubling, exact same versions and setup as me yet two completely different output results. I would really love to track down what makes this difference.
Greg
I take it you've ruled out the theory that faster SSDs has something to do with it?
GrantSP
I've not ruled anything in or out!Same behaviour happens on my laptop which has a slow 5400RPM HDD, so I'm really not sure what's going on.
icetbr
Just to make it clear, the backup folder did appear inside the ovewrite folder, its just the cleaned files that are missing there.
icetbr
I was a little confused with this part The development version includes TES5Edit.exe; this should be renamed to xEdit.exe after copying the contents of the archive file into the xEdit folder. What I did was to extract the zip and renamed TES5Edit.exe to FO3Edit .exe, otherwide MO would complain.
GrantSP
Ahh... interesting, so instead of having the executable named xEdit.exe and adding the switch "-fo3" you renamed it to FO3Edit.exe and the DLCs where saved into the original location. Will try that on my system and check if that's the reason. No! That's not it. Damn, I thought we were on to something. Thank you for providing that extra information though, very thoughtful and helpful.
icetbr
From the wiki https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer If Backup Plugins is checked in TES5Edit, files are saved to original file location, overwriting them, and a backup is created in Overwrite inside the TES5Edit Backups folder (please note that this behavior is different from older versions of MO, in which case no matter what, the modified file was saved in Overwrite). Sorry If I'm missing something, but isn't the way my system is behaving the official way?
GrantSP
From the wiki https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer Sorry If I'm missing something, but isn't the way my system is behaving the official way?Your experience matches that of the wiki writers at the time of writing but it is not actually the "official" behaviour. Since the setup of your install and that of mine is identical we should be seeing the same save behaviour. However we aren't. It makes it very problematic to provide support for this tool when what we expect to happen doesn't and there is no clear reason why.Since you have the desired result however there isn't a great need to investigate further as in the scheme of things this doesn't rate high, just an odd curiosity.
