MO not starting FOSE for Fallout 3 goty

Snarkyfork

Question

I am reinstalling Fallout 3 using MO. I am using the Fallout 3 goty edition from Steam and did the Steam "fix" where you rename the FOSE_loader to Fallout3launcher. The game gave me a warning that FOSE was not running and DarnUI was messed up during the intro.

I found this fix here:

I wanted to know if this "fix" is "official" before using it? Or is there some better way to get the game running? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Edit: I tried this fix and it isn't working for me.

P.S. And while I am here I might as well ask, when installing mods that change the fallout3.ini and prefs.ini... will Mod Organizer automatically make those changes to the Mod Organizer .ini's or will the mods make changes to the actual fallout3.ini's in the documents folder?

You should not have problems starting FO3 through FOSE using Mod Organizer. The installation process details are in the Fallout 3 guide here on the STEP site. When using Mod Organizer Steam itself is not typically used. The FalloutLauncher replacer for Steam, which is described in the guide,  allows Mod Organizer to "hook" Steam while starting the game to allow Steam overlays. There have been other attempts to allow Mod Organizer to hook Steam when starting FO3 (using FOSE or the Fallout Launcher) but AlexxEGs is the only one I know of that seems fairly robust. Note that the FalloutLauncher replacer isn't required to get FO3 running with Mod Organizer, it just allows Steam to be connected to the game.

If you still have questions let us know; I suggest asking these questions in the Support thread for the Fallout 3 guide. There are cases where users have had problems getting FO3 to start when using Mod Organizer even when following the steps in the guide; we don't know why this happens.

Thank you, I guess sometimes less is more. =P I just assumed I needed some fix since the base game didn't want to work without a special tweak with renaming the launcher. I am still getting a strange bug with my UI however, FOSE is running now but Darnified UI is too large. I am playing in 1080p.

Edit: I just tried a backup ini from my other "completely modded" game and the UI works fine. it's almost as if Mod Organizer did not make the UI changes when I activated Darnified UI... How do I know it is working correctly?

Getting the UI working properly is tricky. That is why it's at the beginning of mod installation. The installation fomod scripts for some mods change based on which plugins from other mods are already installed, so for some problems it is necessary to start over on installing the UI mods.
